2. Information We Collect
a) Account Information
When you sign up using Auth0, we collect the following data:
- Email address
- Display name
- Profile picture
Authentication is managed by Auth0, with servers located in the European Union.
b) Uploaded and Translated Content
Books uploaded by users are stored permanently until deleted by the user.
Translated content is stored under the same conditions.
c) Usage and Technical Data
We collect metadata such as:
- IP address
- Browser and device information
- Usage patterns
- Pages viewed and interactions such as clicks and form submissions, collected with PostHog analytics (see sections 4 and 5)
This data is used solely for improving the performance, reliability, and user experience of the service.
3. How We Use Your Data
We use the collected information to:
- Provide and operate Lettercarta
- Process and store books and translations
- Improve service functionality and performance
- Respond to user support requests
- Communicate with users about updates or feedback
Note: Book data may be shared with third-party AI services (including but not limited to OpenAI and Google Gemini) solely for the purpose of generating translations.
4. Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services:
- Authentication: Auth0
- Email sending: Amazon Web Services
- Payments: Stripe
- AI Translation APIs: OpenAI, Google Gemini (Used to perform AI-powered translations)
- Product analytics: PostHog (hosted in the European Union)
These providers may process data in accordance with their own privacy policies.
Payments Processing (Stripe)
We use Stripe to process payments. When you add funds to your balance, certain information is shared with Stripe to complete the transaction (such as your email, billing name, billing address, and payment method details). We do not store full payment card numbers on our servers. Stripe processes your payment information in accordance with its Privacy Policy and security standards (PCI DSS).
We retain a record of successful and failed transactions (amount, currency, time, status, and a reference to the payment) for transparency and auditing.
Analytics (PostHog)
We use PostHog, hosted in the European Union, to understand how Lettercarta is used and to improve it. PostHog receives the pages you visit, interactions such as clicks and form submissions, your browser and device information, and your IP address. When you are logged in, we link this activity to your account's public ID; we do not send your email address or name. Session recording is turned off. PostHog processes this data in accordance with its Privacy Policy.
5. Cookies & Tracking
We use cookies:
- For session management and authentication
We also use PostHog analytics, which stores a random identifier in your browser's local storage. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, analytics runs only if you choose "Accept & Continue" in the cookie banner; "Essential only" keeps it off. We do not use cookies for marketing or retargeting purposes.
On payment pages, Stripe may set functional cookies (for example, fraud prevention identifiers) as described in the Stripe Cookie Policy. These are used only to facilitate secure payments and are not used for advertising.
6. Data Retention
- User accounts, books, and translations are retained until the user deletes them.
- Usage logs are stored for up to 3 months and then deleted automatically.

7. Children's Privacy
Lettercarta is not intended for children where such use is restricted by local law (e.g., under 13 in the US, under 16 in some EU countries).
Children may use the service only if permitted by their local regulations and if they understand and accept these Terms with appropriate guardian consent if required.

All data is stored on secure servers located in the European Union.
We implement industry-standard technical and organizational measures to safeguard your data.
